  • The Knights power changes on the rim and corner. Knights are short range pieces which cannot be blocked. Better on a close & crowded board than Bishops.

  • Value of center, attacking the center

  • Q + K vs K

  • Pawn + King versus a lone king. Practice until you win every time.

  • Blind places. Mentally, w/o board go around the setup positions in your head. Say out loud every starting position of every piece.

  • Back rank mates.

  • Follow this plan closely, as a sensible way to steadily increase your ELO. This "ELO rating" system is used by the USCF, FIDE, the Internet Chess Club (ICC), Yahoo! Games, and the Professional Chess Association (PCA).
